Built for people who can't afford to be fooled.

March 2026 ยท Free, forever

Every year, thousands of people leave their families, their homes, and everything familiar โ€” chasing the promise of a better life in Canada.

They're nurses, caregivers, farm workers, cooks, drivers. They save for years. They borrow from relatives. And they hand over $5,000, $10,000, sometimes $20,000 CAD to recruiters who promise them a job backed by an official Labour Market Impact Assessment โ€” an LMIA.

Then the recruiter disappears. The LMIA was fake. The employer doesn't exist. The money is gone. And they're left in a foreign country with nothing but debt โ€” and no recourse.

This isn't rare. It happens thousands of times a year.

The Canadian government publishes data that could expose these frauds โ€” a list of every employer who received a real, approved LMIA, and a list of employers found in violation of the rules. But that data lives buried in government spreadsheets, inaccessible to the people who need it most โ€” often because they don't speak English fluently, don't know where to look, or don't have time to dig.

LMIA Check is our attempt to fix that. We take that public government data and make it searchable in under 10 seconds. No account. No fee. No barriers.

Will it stop every fraud? No. But if it saves even one person from losing their life savings to a fake job offer โ€” it's worth building.

๐Ÿ”’ If someone charges you to verify an employer โ€” that itself is a red flag.

This tool is free, and it always will be.

Where the data comes from

Positive LMIA list

Published quarterly by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). Lists employers who received approved LMIAs, approved positions, and the program stream.

Non-compliant employer list

Published by ESDC. Lists employers found in violation of Temporary Foreign Worker Program conditions โ€” including active bans and outstanding monetary penalties.

What the results mean

๐ŸŸข Verified

The employer is in government LMIA records with no flagged violations. A good sign โ€” but always request a copy of the actual LMIA approval letter before paying any fees.

๐ŸŸก Verify Further

The employer exists but something doesn't fully match โ€” the location may be different, all records may be for Permanent Residents only, or the employer was previously penalised (but is now eligible). Ask questions before proceeding.

๐Ÿ”ด High Risk

This employer is currently banned from hiring temporary foreign workers, or has an outstanding unpaid penalty. Any job offer is illegitimate. Do not pay fees.

โšช Not Found

No government LMIA records for this employer. Could be a new or niche employer โ€” or a red flag. Exercise maximum caution and verify independently before paying anything.

Limitations to know

  • Government data is published quarterly โ€” it may be up to 3 months out of date
  • A GREEN result does not guarantee a specific job offer is legitimate
  • Legitimate employers may not appear if they only hire Canadians, or were newly approved
  • We use fuzzy name matching โ€” results may include similar-but-different employers
  • Covers the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) only โ€” not International Mobility Program (IMP)
